We are committed to operating with greater energy efficiency and conserving water, balancing this against providing affordable swimming and outdoor activity for everyone in our community.
We will continue to develop sustainable sources of heating and power, reducing waste and emissions wherever possible, while preserving our facility for future generations to enjoy.
Our environmental policy is available to read HERE.
WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO REDUCE OUR IMPACT ON THE PLANET?
We have invested in improvements in our plant room, including a UV treatment unit to help reduce the use of chlorine in the pool, and variable speed pumps allowing us to control power consumption according to need. We have installed two generations of solar PV panels on our flat roofs to generate energy. We have been able to do this by applying for funding, and we have been successful recipients of grants from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, the Trust for Oxfordshire’s Environment, Sport England and the National Lottery.
We have replaced all our lighting with low energy LED sources.
We leave a proportion of our lawn unmown to provide a habitat for animals, birds and insects, and we actively protect the trees around our site.
We don’t print tickets; all information is held on our online booking system.
We buy recycled and recyclable consumables for the Lido café wherever possible, and we try not to sell single use plastics.
We buy and consult locally, using local trades and businesses as our partners.
We offer a swimsuit exchange, collecting a bank of secondhand swimwear to pass on to anyone who needs it.
When we perform repairs or refurbishment onsite, we work with environmental sensitivity, using sustainable or recycled materials and with the goal of improving insulation and energy efficiency.
WHAT CAN OUR CUSTOMERS DO TO HELP US PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT?
Travel to The Lido by foot or on bicycle. If travelling by car, consider leaving it in one of the free car parks in the town centre and walking up to The Lido, to save congestion in our small car park and to reduce the impact of traffic noise and pollution on our neighbours.
Bring your own coffee cup/ water bottle for us to fill in the café. We offer a discount on hot drinks when you bring your own cup.
Shower before you enter the pool. This helps us reduce our need for chlorine. Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before entering the water.
Take your waste away with you wherever possible, or dispose of it into the correct bins for recycling.
HOW WILL WE MAKE THE LIDO MORE SUSTAINABLE IN THE FUTURE?
We will continue to make grant applications to improve our energy efficiency, and will consult on more sustainable ways to run our facility.
We will develop our plans to install an air source heat pump to deliver clean renewable energy and mitigate our use of gas for heating our water, with thanks to recently awarded funding from Sport England and the National Lottery.
We will continue to protect our natural environment and preserve The Lido’s green space.
